Champlain LHIN Appoints New Members to Board of Directors
NEWS - November 15, 2016 - The Champlain Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) is pleased to announce three recent appointments to its board of directors. Diane Hupé, Nick Busing and Wendy Nicklin have joined the LHIN board for the next three years.
The new directors bring exceptional leadership, experience and individual expertise to the board. Their participation will be instrumental to the LHIN’s strategic decision-making on local health care issues.
Ms. Hupé’s and Dr. Busing’s appointments went into effect June 30, 2016, and Ms. Nicklin’s appointment became active on October 5, 2016.
Dr. Nick Busing, MD, CCFP, FCFP
Dr. Nick Busing is past President of the College of Family Physicians of Canada, and has been a primary care physician in the Champlain region with experience in a variety of settings, including community health centres, family health teams, and community and acute-care hospitals. He is also past Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Ottawa, and has held a variety of academic positions.
Nick has been active in research, policy and program development in medical education needs in Canada. He recently led two national projects on recommendations for improving medical education, and has presented widely on medical education and health human-resources.
Throughout his career, Nick has been engaged in the community – for example, providing care to clients of the Union Mission in Ottawa, and Elizabeth Fry Halfway House. He has served on boards and committees across academic, hospital, and professional organization sectors.
Diane Hupé, RN, MPA, BScN
Diane Hupé is a seasoned health services and nursing executive with extensive experience across the health care spectrum. Her expertise encompasses transformation leadership, strategic planning, quality and safety, and change management. Diane also has a deep understanding of home and community health care, which is an important priority for the Champlain LHIN.
Previously, Diane was a surgical and intensive care nurse at Hôpital Montfort and Hotel Dieu, respectively, and then founded and managed Hotel Dieu’s palliative care program. She has also been Senior Vice-President, Patient Care and Chief of Nursing at Bruyère Continuing Care.
Diane has extensive governance experience from serving on the board of a number of organizations, including Champlain Hospice Palliative Care Program and Council on Aging of Ottawa. Most recently, she was Vice-Chair of the Champlain Community Care Access Centre. As board director for the French Language Health Services Network of Eastern Ontario, she provided leadership to help ensure Francophones have access to French-language health care services.
Wendy Nicklin, RN, BN, MSc(A)
Wendy Nicklin is a health system leader with broad health care experience – from clinical care to academic and senior administrative and governance roles. Throughout her career, Wendy has focused on contributing to the improvement of quality of care, including individual to population health.
Until recently, and for more than 10 years, Wendy was President and CEO of Accreditation Canada. Through its standards and accreditation programs, Accreditation Canada works to ensure that Canadians across the country receive safe, high-quality health care. Wendy’s responsibilities included national and international involvement in health service accreditation, extending from home care to highly-specialized technical care, from rural to urban settings, and First Nations health centres.
Wendy has broad governance experience, having served on the boards of the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences, Algonquin College, Canadian Nurses’ Foundation, Canadian Patient Safety Institute, Health Insurance Reciprocal of Canada, and is currently President-Elect (Vice-Chair) of the International Society for Quality of Health Care.
