Carefor Announces Maple Brunch Celebrity Judges
Carefor Health & Community Services, Pembroke Civic Complex, Pembroke Ontario -February 5, 2015 –Everyone in the area has been asking who will be the Celebrity Judges, judging the entrants to the new Carefor Maple Sugar Brunch and Competition on Sunday March 1, 2015 from 10:30am to 2:00pm at the Germanic Hall Pembroke, ON and award the title of “Best Maple Dessert in the Valley!” Especially the Maple Brunch Committee members until a meeting on February 5 decided the roster of Celebrity Judges.
Committee Chair, Glenna Mackenzie announced the list of Celebrities to be at this new fundraising event in support of Carefor Fire Sprinkler Campaign. The Master of Ceremonies will be MyFM’s Morning show host and Christmas Cookie Champion 2015, Jamie Cybulski. Executive Judge will be James Woito of Dreams Catering while managing the full "Bushwackers Brunch" and maple syrup fountain. The first Celebrity Judge is an expert on Canadian and local politics and with the 50th Anniversary of the Canadian flag, a strong promoter of the “maple leaf forever”, Member of Parliament, Cheryl Gallant. The second Celebrity Judge is our culinary expert and will be a strong judge of our competitor’s skills in taste and presentation, Algonquin College's Culinary Skills-Chef Training Program Coordinator, Diane Ferguson. The third Celebrity Judge and expert on what’s best in the Ottawa Valley is Warden Peter Emon. New to his political career but bringing a strong experience in judging and marking skills as a retired Renfrew County Vice Principal and Teacher is The City of Pembroke’s Mayor, Mike LeMay as our fourth judge.
The final judge was not an easy decision. The Carefor Committee had been accepting nominations of outstanding community volunteers who work hard to support the many not-for-profits in Renfrew County. The six nominations were the unsung champions of several well known causes like Cancer, Heart and Stroke, MRI and United Way. These are the dedicated volunteers that are at these event hours before the doors open, cut their hair or grow a crazy moustache, are late getting home because they offered to pick up odds and ends, greet every attendee at fundraising events with a smile even though they have barely slept, and their feet are hurting. They attend hours of meetings and still manage to donate their family time to help out. They often get a sticky job done and with the sweetest disposition. Our selection will have the honour of just one day not working behind the scenes but being a “Sticky Sweet Celebrity Judge!” The Maple Sugar Brunch and Competition’s fifth Celebrity Judge is Tammy Blackmore. If you don’t recognize her name it is because she embodies one of these amazing community supporters. Projects include raising over $325 000 for Heart and Stroke Foundation, a strong supporter of Canadian Cancer Society, Coordinator of Nick Jones Charity Golf Tournament, Seven Summits raising funds for defibulators in Renfrew County and Coordinating Best Western Pembroke’s annual Zombie Thrill Run all while running a successful fitness business for over 27 years.
Special thanks to our early sponsors Frank Carroll Financial ltd, Dreams Catering, MyFM and Purvis Gallery, who’s dedication and support will assist Carefor to raise funds for their Fire Sprinkler Campaign. For over 117 years, Carefor Health & Community Services, a registered not-for-profit charity, has been helping seniors remain comfortably and safely in their homes longer by providing home health care and community services to support their independence. The Carefor Fire Sprinkler Campaign will install fire sprinklers in the Pembroke Civic Complex, an Assisted Living Home for 92 Renfrew County seniors.
