CHEO receives 6 out of 11 Canadian Paediatric Society Awards

OTTAWA, ONTARIO – May 5, 2014 – CHEO physicians and researchers were named 6 times when the Canadian Paediatric Society (CPS) announced its 2014 award winners today. CPS awarded individuals in 11 categories, recognizing their outstanding contributions to child and youth health through excellence in paediatric research, advocacy, health promotion and education.

Dr. Danielle Grenier, a well-respected paediatrician at CHEO, received the Alan Ross Award for her lifelong excellence in paediatric research, education, health care and advocacy.

Dr. Sarah Lawrence received the Michel Weber Education Award and the Noni MacDonald Award. Associate Professor in the Departments of Paediatrics and Medicine at the University of Ottawa and a CHEO physician, Dr. Lawrence was recognized for her dedication and excellence in the field of undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education in both general paediatrics and endocrinology.

Dr. Alex Mackenzie received the Career Research Award recognizing them as an outstanding and accomplished paediatric health researcher in Canada. Dr. Mackenzie is a professor of paediatrics at the University of Ottawa / CHEO, whose research focuses on inherited paediatric diseases.

Dr. Gina Neto, an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Paediatrics and Emergency Medicine at the University of Ottawa and a Clinical Investigator at the CHEO Research Institute, received the Anna Jarvis Paediatric Emergency Teaching Award. The award recognizes Dr. Neto as an exceptional educator at all levels (undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education) in the field of paediatric emergency medicine.

Lastly, the Danielle Grenier Member Recognition Award went to CHEO’s Dr. Chuck Hui for his collaborative project Caring for Kids New to Canada (kidsnewtocanada.ca) an online resource for health professionals working with immigrant and refugee children.

The Canadian Paediatric Society represents more than 3,000 paediatricians, paediatric subspecialists and other child health professionals across Canada. The CPS awards will be presented at the 91st CPS Annual Conference, June 25th – 28th in Montreal.
