Alzheimer Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County
548 Walkers raised over $195,000 at Walk for Memories in support of the Alzheimer Society
Walk for Memories, Ottawa’s premier indoor fundraising walk, held on January 29th inside Carleton University Fieldhouse raised over $195,000 to benefit the work of the Alzheimer Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County.
At this 17th annual event, 548 walkers, dozens of sponsors including the Leading the Walk sponsors of Collins Barrow Chartered Accountants, and Scotiabank, thousands of donors, and hundreds of volunteers combined forces to make an incredible difference in supporting people and families living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
Event proceeds will support the Alzheimer Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County’s work in providing information, support, education, and promotion of research to help individuals and families living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
In Ottawa and Renfrew County, there are approximately 15,000 people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. This number does not include family members and caregivers who must also cope with the effects of dementia. The Alzheimer Society is here to help.
Many of the participants took on the Distance Challenges of 1, 3, 5, 8, and 10 km sponsored by: Alavida/The Ravines; Rideau Gardens; Giant Tiger; and CTV.
Ms. Chris Donahoe, raised the highest amount from an individual with the amount of $9,300. Honourable mention to our 2nd place individual winner John & Margaret Wilson with $6,090, our 3rd place individual winner Mike Lupiano with $3,150, and our 4th place individual winner Muneesh Dhingra with $2,780. Our congratulations as well to the staff of Team Scotiabank for raising $10,764 which is the most money from a team that will now by matched by its corporate office.
