Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization (OCISO) will host its 3rd Annual Awards Gala – Celebrating Our Community on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at the Centurion Conference and Event Center, 170 Colonnade Road South. Nepean, Ottawa. The Awards Gala will be a spirited evening of fine dining, delightful conversations, spectacular entertainments, awards, dancing, and auctions.

Nishith Göel, President and CEO of Cistel Technology Inc. will be the Chair of the Gala. Graham Richardson, Chief News Anchor of CTV Ottawa, and Sarah Onyango, hostess of Fontonfrom on Rogers TV, Black on Black and Afrika Revisited on CHUO will be the hosts of the evening.

OCISO will present the 3rd Annual Community Awards of Excellence to recognize and honour the outstanding contributions of individuals and organizations that have positively impacted the lives of refugees and immigrants in our community. OCISO recognizes the need to raise public awareness about the contributions made for and by immigrants and refugees to their communities.

As a result, we created the OCISO Community Awards of Excellence (OCAE) as a vehicle to positively and publicly recognize and celebrate the achievements of these community champions whose contributions enable immigrants and their families to fully participate in an open and welcoming Ottawa. With the Community Awards of Excellence, we hope to honour these heroes in our community and encourage more leaders to continue caring to make Ottawa more culturally, economically, and socially vibrant.

The awards of excellence categories are: Youth Leadership Award, Heroes Among Us Award, and Organizational Leadership Award. Click here to download the 2011 Call for Nominations. We encourage you to nominate community members and / or organizations that make a difference in our community. The deadline to receive completed nominations is February 15, 2011.

We look forward to having you with us on March 3, 2011 at 6pm as we shine the spotlight on and share in the accomplishments and successes of some Ottawa community champions who work passionately to support many immigrants in their journey to citizenship.
