Alzheimer Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County
MAKE YOUR COFFEE COUNT IN SUPPORTING THE ALZHEIMER SOCIETY
During September and October, thousands of people all over Canada will make their coffee count by supporting the Alzheimer Society’s annual fundraiser, Coffee Break™.
The 14th annual Alzheimer Coffee Break™ officially kicks off on September 17th leading up to World Alzheimer Day™ with the theme of ‘Diagnosing Dementia: See It Sooner’. Earlier diagnosis, access to better treatment options, and greater understanding of the disease itself are changing the lives of people with Alzheimer’s disease.
Coffee Break™ raises over $11 million nationally – in Ottawa and Renfrew County, it raises over $25,000 annually to support local programs for the 12,000 people living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias as well as their families. The funds raised are critical because the Alzheimer Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County derives over 75% of its total revenue for much-needed programs from fundraising activities.
Coffee Break™ happens in one of three ways:
1) Ottawa area merchants (such as Bulk Barn, Giant Tiger, The Medicine Shoppe, The Works and Joey’s Only) host an event by selling coffee-cup cutouts for a dollar;
2) local hosts such as retirement residences, private hosts and business offices serve coffee and ask for a donation; and
3) supporters wishing to donate online may either support the local Alzheimer Society’s virtual Coffee Break™ found via www.alzheimer-ottawa-rc.org or host one themselves.
Constituents living in the federal Ottawa-Vanier riding can enjoy a coffee at the riding office of the Hon. Mauril Bélanger, MP, who will be hosting a Coffee Break™ from 7 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 17. “This is a great opportunity for me to meet my constituents while raising awareness towards Alzheimer’s disease and the work of the local Alzheimer Society”, says M.P. Bélanger. “I am really looking forward to the Coffee Break™ and hope that many will join us”.
