Service Description: Follows the Headstart program for pre-school children guidelines * promotes language acquisition, problem solving skills, school readiness, self-regulation, socialization, healthy physical and cognitive development and greater self-esteeem

Activitties include:
  • library, puzzles and building toys to develop language, literacy, cognitive and manipulative skill
  • dramatic play
  • art to develop language, sensory and creative opportunities
  • science to question, wonder and explore
  • field trips to give children first hand experiences in their community to expand their knowledge and understanding of the world around them
  • language development program — Speech/Language Pathologist consultation, assessment and referral
  • nutritious and hearty meals including a balanced breakfast, a hot lunch and a healthy snack before departure adhering to dietary restrictions/allergies
  • positive behaviour guidance opportunities to develop self-regulation and control, self-esteem and problem solving through guided interactions with staff and other children

Fees: Set fees * Each licensed Headstart program has full or partial subsidies for families who qualify. Parents may apply for a subsidy through the City of Ottawa Childcare Registry and Waitlist * For help applying for a subsidy call the program
Application: Parents may make self-referrals or children may be referred by social service agencies.
