Alzheimer Society's Minds in Motion Program

After over 31 years as the face of the Alzheimer Society of Cornwall & District, Shelley Vaillancourt retired in April 2020. However, we were unable to have an in-person celebration due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the “Fund A Need” has gone virtual! We’re asking all our remarkable partners and colleagues to go online to help us commemorate Shelley’s commitment to improving the lives of people living dementia in our community.

Your decision to “Fund A Need” will have a direct impact on improving the lives of thousands of families by supporting our Minds in Motion® program. Minds in Motion® is an 8 week community-based social program that incorporates physical activity and mental stimulation for people with dementia and their care partners. Please click here to learn more about our Minds in Motion® program!

The Alzheimer Society, as well as Shelley herself, asks you to please donate to this extraordinary program in recognition of her 31+ years of dedication and caring.

Thanks to the graciousness of Lahaie & Sullivan Cornwall Funeral Homes, we are putting together a memory book with messages and pictures to present to Shelley to commemorate her time with the Alzheimer Society. We invite you to take a moment to share a memory or an anecdote about Shelley or the way the Society made a difference in yours, or your family’s lives. We also welcome you to send along any pictures of Shelley or of the Minds in Motion® program. Please send your messages and pictures to Myriam Fontaine, Student Campaign Assistant at the Alzheimer Society (myriam.fontaine@one-mail.on.ca). Kindly send your comments and pictures by November 30th, 2020 to make sure we capture everyone’s memories in the scrapbook.

If you are interested making a donation, please complete the attached donation form and return it in person, by mail, or scanned and sent by email to myriam.fontaine@one-mail.on.ca. Please share this information with other colleagues who have worked with the Alzheimer Society and/or Shelley Vaillancourt in the past to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to contribute.

The Alzheimer Society offers support, respite, and education throughout the Eastern Counties. The need for dementia support continues to increase. This growth could not be met without stronger partnerships, community collaborations, and generous donors.
