Renfrew County Volunteer Survey – Everyone Wins!
The Volunteer Project team in collaboration with the EMC2 project at the University of Ottawa sincerely thank the nearly 700 people who participated in the Renfrew County Volunteer Survey! We also thank Human Resources Development Canada and the Healthy Communities Partnership for their support. Respondents, including current and former volunteers as well as people who are not able to volunteer, completed the survey providing invaluable information for our community. Dr. Elizabeth Kristjansson and her students are busy analyzing results and will release a full report in October; this will be on the Killaloe Resource Centre’s website: www.crc-renfrewcounty.com. They have also completed the prize draw and 23 Renfrew County Residents have won prizes; three won Chapters Gift Certificates worth $50 each, five won I-Tunes gift Certificates worth $15 each and fifteen people won Tim Horton’s Gift Certificates worth $10. The list of winners can now be found on the Killaloe Community Resource Center website.
Here are a few key results from the volunteerism survey. Volunteers want their work to be meaningful! Most of the current and former volunteers volunteered to give back to their community, to help others and/or to help the cause; many also wanted to use their skills. Most volunteers would like to be recognized with a simple thank-you; nearly half of all volunteers also wanted to hear how their work has made a difference. When respondents were asked what supports would help them in their volunteering, more than a third of respondents responded that they would like more flexible time commitments, opportunities to increase skills, help with costs and/or better ways to learn about volunteering.
Not-for-profit organizations, businesses, and all levels of government can use these and other results to help provide better support for volunteers, who are crucial to the continued well-being of all citizens of Renfrew County.
