Carefor Honours 30 Year Volunteer

Pembroke Royal Canadian Legion branch 72, Pembroke, Ontario, June 24, 2014- Carefor Health & Community Services set aside a few hours to celebrate its many successes in 2013 - 2014 and to recognize the 450 staff and volunteers who were the driving force of those achievements. Among those honoured, one volunteer stood out, Glenna MacKenzie was recognized for 30 years of dedication though continuous volunteer service.

The capacity crowd at the Pembroke Legion was buzzing with excitement when Carefor Director of Operations, Steve Perry announced the recipient of the 30 year honour. Glenna Mackenzie has volunteered her time in multiple capacities including several key board of director positions and is currently Past Chair of the Board. She has inspired and led projects that include but are not limited to the 1995 development of the Lady Aberdeen Place, the redevelopment of the Pembroke Civic Hospital into a 92 bed assisted living facility in 1998, the amalgamation of the Victorian Order of Nurses Pembroke and South Renfrew branches and the amalgamation of VON Renfrew County, VON Ottawa and VON Eastern Counties to form Carefor Health & Community Services. Glenna remains a very active volunteer member of the organization and many in attendance at the event commented on knowing Glenna as a leader who works side-by-side with those around her to achieve successful outcomes which ultimately benefit the clients served by the organization. No job is too small for her from stuffing mail out campaign envelopes to dropping off thank you notes to decorating more than a dozen Christmas trees at the Civic Complex.

Many will be reminded of the Micksburg/Pembroke native outside of Carefor as an elementary school teacher or active member of the Catholic Women’s league.

“Glenna has and continues to be an inspiration to our Organization. She has governed the organization responsibly and guided us though many impactful projects like the establishment of Lady Aberdeen Place, the development of the Pembroke Civic Complex and the transition from Victorian Order of Nurses to become Carefor Health & Community Services. It has been an honour to work alongside her,” complemented Carefor Director of Operations, Steve Perry.
