Families are a Special Part of Christmas

Pembroke – Bereaved Families of Ontario – Pembroke is pleased to present our annual Holiday Help Program on the 25th of November, 2013 beginning at 7:00PM. Our guest speaker this year will be the Rev. Eric Strachan who will speak on the importance of family during the holidays and offer some advice on what we might do when missing a loved one over Christmas.

Rev. Eric Strachan is of Scottish-Canadian decent and has lived in the Ottawa Valley since 1981. He is the pastor of the New Life Community Church and provides support to the Herman Street Public School, both in Petawawa. Rev. Strachan was a chaplain at the Pembroke jail for 12 years and has been a newspaper columnist for 25 years. Our friend Eric is also a loving husband, father, and grandpa.

In recent years, there has been a growing awareness of grief issues, and an acknowledgement of the ever increasingly complicated reactions to many situations of loss. Traditionally, dealing with loss has focused on the death of a loved one, but we mourn other events including loss of employment, family break up, abortion, the death of a pet, the process of institutionalization and many other life changes.

Established in 1982, Bereaved Families of Ontario – Pembroke is a registered charity that offers programs and services to all members of Renfrew County at no charge. The agency is a self-help organization committed to assisting families and other bereaved persons in coping with the painful reality of loss.

We ask that those planning on attending this event contact the Bereaved Families office at 613-7894 or email us at programdirector@bfopembroke.ca before the 14th November 2013 so we can make sure there is enough seating for everyone.
