Active Seniors Koalition showcasing local sports and activities
The Active Seniors Koalition’s 50+ Recreation Expo promises to be an exciting event for older adults and seniors to learn about and participate in, a number of affordable and fun physical activities available in our area! Come and try out floor shuffleboard, lawn bowling or nordic pole walking. Numerous clubs and organizations with be on hand to tell you about their group and their activities (from bird watching and biking to tai chi and tennis) We’ll also have stations for you to learn more about falls prevention, get your blood pressure checked, and hear from the OPP Senior Fraud Squad on how to protect yourself from scams.
ASK chair, Tom Baumgartner, said, “I remember the start of the federal government’s ParticipACTION campaign years ago….and the message about how individuals and communities can get active. Since 2006, the Active Seniors Koalition has been successful in bringing people and community partners together to increase the number and type of affordable physical activities available for older adults and seniors in our area. Keeping active is one of the secrets to aging well and enjoying the retirement years. This expo is a way to let people know what is available and how easy it is to get involved. When we say, ‘You’ve been ASKed’, it means “We’d love to have you join us!”
So, Mark your calendars for the 50+ Recreation Expo – Thursday, May 16 from 10:00-2:00 at the Lanark and District Civitan Hall. Admission is free, and the Civitan members will be providing a delicious lunch for the low cost of $5. Local renowned fiddler John Richard and pianist John Dunn will keep you entertained over lunch. Some transportation support can be provided - if you require assistance to get to the Expo, call by May 13 to schedule a ride. There may be a nominal charge for the round trip.
