Olde Forge 1st Annual Seniors Information Fair and Lunch

Ottawa, April 3, 2013… On Thursday, April 25th, The Olde Forge Community Resource Centre, a non-profit agency that offers support services to seniors and adults with disabilities living in Ottawa’s west end, will be hosting its 1st Annual Seniors Information Fair and Lunch at Lakeside Gardens (Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre, Britannia Park). Honourary Chair for the event is former Ottawa mayor, Jackie Holzman.

Beginning at 11 a.m. and running to 3 p.m., the event will showcase 39 exhibitors who provide services specifically for seniors such as wellness and support options, community groups, pharmacies, tax advisors, real estate, retirement residences, recreation, travel and specialized home care. The “lunch and learn” format gives companies the opportunity to showcase their offerings and provides a great venue for seniors to ask questions and understand what is available to them.

Olde Forge’s Chair of the Board, Mary Houston-Lambert, has been leading a committee of volunteers in planning and organizing this information initiative. Executive Director, Anita Bloom, advises that while the agency “…has been helping seniors for 39 years, we are seeing the demand for our services increase steadily. Seniors now comprise the fastest growing segment of Ottawa’s population.” Census data show that the area served by The Olde Forge has an older population than Ottawa as a whole. In 2011, 20.3% of the population was aged 65 years and older, compared to 13.2% in Ottawa.

Admission tickets are $10 per person and include a light lunch prepared by Nate's Deli. Complimentary bus transportation from Carlingwood and Lincoln Fields shopping centres and The Olde Forge is available by reservation only. Tickets for the Fair can be purchased at the Olde Forge, 2730 Carling Avenue, 613-829-9777 Monday-Friday 9-4. For transportation reservations call the Seniors Fair Hotline 613-829-9777 ext. 7252.
