Launch of a new French-language post-diploma college program made possible thanks to a unique inter-institutional and inter-provincial partnership!

Ottawa, February 5, 2013 – Thanks to the Consortium national de formation en santé (CNFS) and funding from Health Canada, a new French-language post-diploma college program in health and community services management is being launched today, the result of a unique inter-institutional and inter-provincial partnership.

The program was developed jointly and will be offered online by four CNFS member institutions located in three provinces: the Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick (CCNB), La Cité collégiale, Collège Boréal and the Université de Saint-Boniface. The program has received all required approvals from the relevant institutional and governmental authorities, and will help to address the increasing need for highly qualified and specialized managers ready to meet the challenges of the future across the country.

“This partnership between four recognized post-secondary institutions demonstrates once again the soundness of the resource sharing and alternative teaching methods promoted by Collège Boréal. This agreement joins the 14 collegiate collaborations that Collège Boréal has already established across the country, and we intend more than ever to act in francophone students’ own interest, throughout the regions we serve, and improve their access to post-secondary studies in French”, said Denis Hubert-Dutrisac, President of Collège Boréal.

“It is with enthusiasm et conviction that the Université de Saint-Boniface has contributed along with the three partner colleges to the development and implementation of this new program supported by the CNFS. We believe that by training Francophone and bilingual managers, this program will help to improve and increase the delivery of quality healthcare and community services in French within all our minority francophone communities” adds Raymonde Gagné, CNFS Co-President and President of the Université de Saint-Boniface.

Healthcare and social service professionals working in Francophone minority communities are acknowledged as natural leaders who make a difference. “The new management program offers a real opportunity for students to pursue an interesting and fulfilling career in healthcare and community services, to play a larger role as change agents, and to facilitate knowledge transfer in this critical area for the health and development of our communities,” says Lise Bourgeois, President of La Cité collégiale.

Moreover, Liane Roy, President and Executive Director of the CCNB, is pleased that her institution will play a pivotal role in this program’s success: “The CCNB will serve as registrar for the program for all four institutions, and will host the Web portal and the 16 program courses,” she says and adds: “The quality, the accessibility and the flexibility of this new online program make it an excellent choice. And experienced teachers in each institution will oversee each student’s assignments, research and coursework.”

The CNFS is a pan-Canadian group of eleven colleges and institutions offering French-language education in various healthcare disciplines, including the CCNB, La Cité collégiale, Collège Boréal and the Université de Saint-Boniface. Six regional partners support the CNFS by facilitating access to these training programs. The CNFS also has a National Secretariat in Ottawa, which plays a leadership and coordination role. This strategic alliance is well positioned to increase the presence and support of French-speaking healthcare professionals and researchers in order to improve the quality of healthcare service offerings that are adapted to the needs of Francophone minority communities across the country. CNFS initiatives are made possible thanks to funding from Health Canada as part of the Roadmap for Canada’s Linguistic Duality 2008-2013.
