The HGH and the CEPEO partner to create training opportunities in health care for high school students
Hawkesbury, Wednesday, February 6, 2013 – The Hawkesbury & District General Hospital (HGH) and the Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario (CEPEO) announced today a partnership project to introduce high school students to different health professions.
The new “Majeure Haute Spécialisation en santé et bien-être » program will be implemented in February 2013 at the HGH. This program, coordinated by the École secondaire publique Le Sommet Public High School, will allow Grade 11 and 12 students who have interest in the health care industry to partake in observation activities in a professional environment, while fulfilling their high school diploma requirements.
HGH will offer students a unique learning environment, participating in observation opportunities in various health care professions that are available within the hospital. Students who are interested in a career in health care will therefore be better tooled when entering the post-secondary destination of their choice.
For the CEPEO, this program will insure that our youth is exposed to the various healthcare professions available to them in the region. Through HGH’s mission of becoming a teaching facility, this program is in line with its official affiliations with the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Medicine (2010) and La Cité collégiale’s Institute of Health Sciences (2012).
