Ottawa Public Health works with the community to Get to Zero

Ottawa – Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is encouraging residents to get informed and get involved in World AIDS Day, December 1, The theme for World AIDS Day for the next four years, as declared by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, is called Getting to Zero – zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination and zero AIDS related deaths!

Because over 70 new cases of HIV continue to be reported in Ottawa each year, OPH continues to work with community partners to help reduce the spread of HIV and supports community working groups that reach sub-populations at higher risk of HIV infection such as; youth, men who have sex with men, ethno-cultural communities, and people who use drugs.

OPH is also actively involved in the delivery of prevention-focused programs and clinical services that promote safer sex practices, testing and treatment of STIs and HIV such as; outreach at special events, targeted testing campaigns, increased use of social media, and the upcoming condom campaign – Sex It Smart.

There are many activities and events happening in our community: local events and Facebook event.
