A new Francophone online space, thanks to a new Portail de formation linguistique et d’adaptation culturelle, en santé

Ottawa, October 26, 2012 - The Consortium national de formation en santé (CNFS), in collaboration with the University of Ottawa and the Université de Moncton, and with the support of its other member institutions, is proud to announce the web launch of its brand new online resource, the Portail de formation linguistique et d’adaptation culturelle, en santé.

Since 2009, the member institutions, regional partners and CNFS National Secretariat have developed a number of language training and cultural adaptation projects in Francophone minority communities across the country. These projects have been designed mainly to train and support bilingual and Francophone healthcare professionals, so that they can offer linguistically and culturally appropriate French-language healthcare services in their workplaces. CNFS programs also help professionals to strengthen and maintain their language skills in their practice for them to be better able to contribute to the active offer of quality French-language healthcare services in their communities.

This new portal, made possible thanks to the financial support of Health Canada, will create an online Francophone space that will:

  • present a comprehensive list of the language and cultural adaptation training programs offered in French by the CNFS member institutions;
  • facilitate access to online training programs;
  • provide French-language tools that are useful for healthcare professionals; and
  • better inform the public and healthcare professionals about available training programs and healthcare training news.

The CNFS is a pan-Canadian group of eleven colleges and universities offering French-language education in various healthcare disciplines, and six regional partners, which facilitate access to these training programs. The CNFS also has a National Secretariat in Ottawa, which plays a leadership and coordination role. This strategic alliance is well positioned to increase the presence and support of French-speaking healthcare professionals and researchers in order to improve the quality of healthcare service offerings that are adapted to the needs of Francophone minority communities. CNFS programs and initiatives are made possible through funding from Health Canada as part of the Roadmap for Canada’s Linguistic Duality 2008-2013.
