Fall Is the Time to Get Your Free Flu Shot
Ontario is making it easier than ever to get your free flu shot close to home - through your family doctor, nurse-led flu immunization clinics and now at participating pharmacies.
Starting this week, specially trained pharmacists can give the flu shot to Ontarians, age five and over. You can find a health care provider offering the flu shot near you at Ontario.ca/flu.
The flu vaccine is safe and effective, and getting it early helps you and people around you stay healthy. The flu can lead to serious health problems, and those most at risk are the elderly, young children, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems. The sooner you get your flu shot, the sooner you're protected - and the more likely we are to reduce illness, hospitalization and deaths from flu in the community.
Preventing illness through immunization helps to keep Ontario healthy and is part of Ontario's Action Plan for Health Care.
Quick Facts
- The flu shot is offered free of charge to everyone six months of age and older who lives, works or attends school in Ontario.
- People with the flu may be contagious even before symptoms appear and up to seven days after becoming sick.
- It is impossible to get the flu from the flu shot.
