Hôpital Montfort launches research institute
Hôpital Montfort is proud to announce that it has reached an important milestone in its teaching and research mission. The francophone institution now boasts its own research institute, the Institut de recherche de l’Hôpital Montfort (IRHM), which is affiliated with the University of Ottawa.
“The mission of the Institut de recherche de l’Hôpital Montfort will be to work towards improving the health and wellness of minority francophone populations,” explains Andrée Durieux-Smith, the scientific director and associate vice-president of research at IRHM.
Interdisciplinary research teams at IRHM are currently working with francophone communities in order to identify their health needs and to develop research programs in this area. They are playing a vital role by sharing their findings with communities, enabling them participate more fully in addressing their unique health care needs.
“The IRHM’s research is also contributing to the improvement of clinical practices. Hôpital Montfort’s health professionals will benefit from the knowledge acquired by our researchers and they will collaborate on the research programs put in place by our institute,” added Dr. Bernard Leduc, president and CEO of Hôpital Montfort.
The Institut de recherche de l’Hôpital Montfort has established four main research priorities:
- Metabolism and nutrition;
- Primary care and the health of minorities;
- Family health;
- Mental health and well-being
Hôpital Montfort is a Francophone institution that delivers quality care in both official languages, within an academic setting and works with its partners to improve communities’ health.
