Ottawa Public Health invites mothers and their babies to take part in the Global Breastfeeding Challenge
Ottawa - Mothers and babies are invited to join Ottawa Public Health (OPH) and its community partners to raise awareness about the importance of breastfeeding.
Last year in Ottawa, 141 mothers and their babies participated in this international challenge. The Global Breastfeeding Challenge continues to grow as additional countries join in to set the world record for the most babies breastfed at one time, in one location.
Date: Saturday, October 1, 2011 Time: Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Countdown and challenge begins at 11 a.m. sharp Location: Billings Bridge Shopping Centre, main entrance 2277 Riverside Drive East
There are several reasons as to why breast milk is the best food for your baby:
- Allows for easier digestion
- Provides protection from illness
- Reduces the risk of obesity
- Helps in the development of healthy teeth
Breastfeeding is an enriching experience that provides close physical contact between the mother and her child. Mothers who breastfeed reduce their risk of breast and ovarian cancer, and contribute to the optimal growth and development of their child.
Please join us in an attempt to surpass last year’s number. There are great prizes to be won. This year’s event will be hosted by local radio personality Sandra Plagakis from KISS-FM.
