Health Unit encourages more well water testing

The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit is working to encourage well water testing. Another new site has been added this week for people to pick up sampling bottles and drop off well water samples for delivery to the Public Health Laboratories in Kingston and Ottawa.

Free well water testing is a program offered by Public Health Ontario and facilitated by the local Health Unit. With the help of partners such as Mississippi Mills Township, Lanark Highlands Township, Country Roads Community Health Centre and The Office – office supplies in Perth and now Lanark Living Realty, the Health Unit has been able to offer more sites for bottle pick up and sample drop off.
  • Country Roads Community Health Centre at 4319 Cove Road on Hwy 15 in Portland is open for water bottle pick up and drop off Monday, 8am - 5pm; Tuesday 8am - 7pm; Wednesday 8am - 5pm; and Thursday 8am -7pm.
  • The Office at 11 Wilson Street East in Perth is open for water bottle pick up and drop off Monday to Thursday 9am - 5:30pm.
  • NEW – Lanark Living Realty at 62 George Street in Lanark Village is open every Monday (except for statutory holidays) for water bottle drop off between the hours of 10am and 4pm. Residents can pick up empty water bottles during regular business hours.
  • Just a reminder that the Lanark Highlands Township office at 75 George Street will accept water bottles dropped off on the first Tuesday of each month from 8:30am – 4:30pm. Empty water bottles will also be available during regular business hours.

In 2008, Mississippi Mills Township Office became a site for water bottle pick up and drop off at 3131 Old Perth Road from Monday – Thursday 8:30am – 4:30pm. This service is also available at all Health Unit Office locations in Brockville, Smiths Falls, Kemptville and Gananoque from Monday to Thursday during regular business hours.

If you get your drinking water from a well, it is important that you take the responsibility for testing that water regularly. For more information about well water testing, call the Health ACTION Line at 1-800-660-5853 or 613-345-5685 or visit the website at www.healthunit.org/water.
