New Services in Addictions in Prescott and Russell

Hawkesbury, November 24th, 2011 – Addiction Services of Eastern Ontario (ASEO) provide addiction treatment to the population of Eastern Counties (Prescott & Russell and Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry). Today, the agency is pleased to announce program enhancements for its Prescott and Russell service.

“The objective is to reach as many people and families who are afflicted with alcohol, drugs or gambling problems as possible. They are not alone,” explains ASEO’s board president Mrs. Carole Larocque.
“At least one in ten Canadians 15 years of age and over reports symptoms consistent with alcohol or drug dependence, and Prescott and Russell counties are severely afflicted,” says Dr. Suzanne Filion, the new Director in Prescott and Russell.

Many recent changes have occurred at ASEO including a move of offices to a more practical location (on McGill St., in Hawkesbury), the implementation of a new administrative team, and an increase in clinical programs.

ASEO Prescott & Russell revised its intake service so that it is now directly accessible in Hawkesbury and Rockland. Also, funding was recently received for the development of two new programs, one for an addictions-specific supportive housing program, and the other for a youth program. Both are possible thanks to collaboration with community agencies. Furthermore, ASEO has solidified a partnership with the Centre Royal-Comtois Center to offer two new programs: 1) a quick response treatment program, and 2) a self-management program for clients who suffer from diabetes, addictions and/or mental health. “It’s important to act now, and these new services will provide the tools to better meet the needs of our community, helping those afflicted, their family and friends,” adds Dr. Filion.

With all this growth, it is not surprising that ASEO is expanding its employee base. New staff has been hired and active recruitment is ongoing. ASEO will continue to offer the array of programs that were already available to the community, such as substance abuse and gambling, programs for women, individual therapy, case management, etc.
