Pembroke Regional Hospital Celebrates National Nursing Week

PEMBROKE – This week, as nurses around the world are recognized for their daily contribution to quality healthcare, the Pembroke Regional Hospital is taking the opportunity to thank its nurses as well as its entire healthcare team as part of a weeklong celebration marking National Nursing Week, International Nurses’ Day (May 12) and Canada Health Day (May 12).

“Pembroke Regional Hospital’s 290 nurses are remarkable champions for this year’s theme The Health of our Nation,” said Sandra Keon, Vice-President of Patient Services and Chief Nursing Officer. “Every day, they devote themselves to providing patients with compassionate, skilled and timely nursing care in an effort to promote and improve the health status of our patients.”

Despite consistently high occupancy levels and extraordinary pressures on our hospital resources over the past year, Mrs. Keon said, the Pembroke Regional Hospital’s nurses, clinical support staff and non-clinical staff have worked with physicians and our entire heath care team to provide the best possible care for their patients.

“On behalf of the Nursing Team, we express our gratitude and appreciation to all our health care colleagues with whom we work and collaborate on a daily basis – it is a team effort that enables us to promote and improve healthy outcomes for our patients,” Mrs. Keon said.

To honour the team’s commitment to providing quality care closer to home, PRH will join with other health facilities, agencies, community health organizations and public health units across Canada this Thursday to celebrate Canada Health Day and this year’s theme – Staying healthy … together! As a token of thanks for the team’s commitment to quality patient care, a selection of healthy refreshments will be provided to all staff, physicians and volunteers.

The Hospital will also be holding several draws for staff as part of Appreciation Day.

Other activities specifically focused on nursing celebrations are a staff trivia night, special prize draws and a tour of the hospital by executive members of the Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA).

“We have an excellent team of dedicated nursing staff who come to work each day knowing they will be caring for their friends, their neighbours and their loved ones and taking a moment to thank them in small ways like this is the least we can do for all that they give to those in our community,” said Hospital President and CEO Pierre Noel.
