Health Unit Receives Accreditation Award
The Leeds, Grenville & Lanark District Health Unit has recently been awarded unconditional accreditation by the Ontario Council on Community Health Accreditation (OCCHA) for the period of September 15, 2010 to September 15, 2013. This is the highest level of award possible and signifies a high level of compliance with the OCCHA Standards.
The accreditation process provides an independent, voluntary peer evaluation of the administrative aspects of local public health agencies. This process incorporates the Ontario Public Health Standards and continuous quality improvement principles. The accreditation standards span six areas – Leadership, Organizational Capacity, Workforce, Partnerships and Collaboration, Programs, and Communication.
The Health Unit has been accredited since 1990 and has participated in six surveys. Each survey has provided insight into improvements in preparing for the next survey and helping to streamline the process.
“On behalf of the Board of Health, I would like to acknowledge the tremendous efforts of our staff in preparing for this accreditation survey”, says Jack Butt, chair of the Board of Health.
The Health Unit also received a commendation for its efforts to communicate important information to all staff in a timely and inclusive manner.
The Health Unit is proud to accept this award, which demonstrates accountability to municipalities, the community, our partners and the province. It is a tangible demonstration of our commitment to excellence and continuous quality improvement.
