One-Third of Region’s Residents Have Received H1N1 Vaccine
The Eastern Ontario Health Unit held its final community H1N1 vaccination clinic on November 27th, bringing to an end 5 weeks of community clinics. In total, the Health Unit distributed approximately 71 000 doses of H1N1 vaccine to area residents through its community clinics, as well as healthcare providers, hospitals and long-term care homes.
The approximate numbers of people immunized at the November 27th clinics are as follows:
- Alexandria – 900
- Casselman – 1200
- Chesterville – 850
- Cornwall – 1750
- Hawkesbury – 1100
- Rockland - 1250
“We’ve vaccinated about one-third of our population in the five Eastern Counties,” states Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, Medical Officer of Health. “We’re very pleased by these numbers, and by the fact that interest in the vaccine is still high. We encourage those who haven’t yet been vaccinated to contact their healthcare provider or the Health Unit to book an appointment for the vaccine.”
Residents who haven’t yet been vaccinated (or whose children need a second dose) can get the H1N1 vaccine through participating healthcare providers or at an Eastern Ontario Health Unit office.
