PEMBROKE – High school students interested in going to medical school and pursuing a career as a doctor are invited to attend this year’s fourth and final meeting of the Upper Ottawa Valley Medical Recruitment Committee’s (UOVMRC) Pre-med Club.

During his presentation entitled, “So You Want To Go To Medical School – Here’s How”, Lt.-Col Kile will provide insight into ways to improve the likelihood of success getting into medical school and the ways to ensure a rich experience once you are in medical school.

Topics to be touched upon include commonly held myths, strategies for letter writing, a review of key admission criteria, preparing for the interview, and creating a competitive application, among other helpful tips.

The Pre-Med Club was created for local high school students who have a genuine interest in medicine. In order to meet the Recruitment Committee’s goal of attracting local physicians, medical students and residents to our area, this club was designed to offer encouragement, guidance and mentoring to these students and to aid them in preparation for a career as a doctor.

At the Pre-Med Club meetings, students and parents are encouraged to ask questions and gain as much knowledge about the profession and what it takes to be a doctor.

No advance registration is required to attend the meeting and light refreshments are served.
