Let’s Celebrate Environmental Public Health Week January 18-24th, 2010!

Improved hygiene, diagnosis, and treatment in the past century has given the people of Canada and the world a certain emotional security even in the face of serious disease. However, in today’s complex and border-less world, Public Health Inspectors across Canada ask you to take a simple yet bold hygienic approach to life…START WITH THE BASICS…WASH YOUR HANDS!

Environmental Public Health Week was established by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors to recognize the work done by environmental public health professionals and to raise public awareness about the profession.

Public health inspectors are multi-disciplined, providing services in a number of areas including food safety and foodborne illness investigation, rabies prevention, West Nile virus and Lyme disease prevention, air and drinking water quality, inspection of private sewage disposal systems, outbreak management and emergency response.

The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit is proud of these dedicated professionals who are committed to promoting and protecting public health within our community!

For more information about the role of the public health inspector, call 613-345-5685 or 613-283-2740 or visit the Health Unit website at www.healthunit.org/jobs/careers/phi_description.htm.
