The Orléans Family Health Hub is Becoming a Reality

Ottawa August 13, 2009 – The Honourable Dalton McGuinty, Premier of Ontario, Mr. Phil McNeely, MPP for Ottawa-Orléans, the executives of the Montfort Hospital and the Champlain Local Health Integration Network announced today that the project for the creation of the Orléans Family Health Hub is forging ahead.

There are several phases involved in implementing this innovative project. Several partners working together will accelerate the completion of plans for Phase 1 and submit them to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. The proposed business plan is divided into three parts:
  • Developing a model for the delivery of services
  • Determining the infrastructure support required
  • Delivering a functional program

According to Gérard R. Savoie, CEO of Montfort Hospital: “The Orléans Family Health Hub is part of the solution for improving health care and the people of the greater Orléans area are the big winners, with better access to a wide range of primary care and medical services, including surgery and diagnostic services, in a fully integrated health hub that will be the envy of all. The Montfort team is proud to show leadership and work with key partners on this innovative project that is truly one of a kind in Ontario”.

The Orléans Family Health Hub is the result of a collaborative and innovative approach that is redefining service delivery as a seamless continuum of care. It will provide improved access to healthcare services in the community. For patients, this one-stop healthcare hub in Orléans will mean better access to family health services, improved referral services to healthcare adapted to their needs and a reduction in wait times for emergency services in local hospitals.

This hub will offer residents of East Ottawa a wide range of healthcare services including: emergency care, home care, long-term placement and community support services, chronic illness management and dialysis, cancer care, mental health and addiction services, diagnostic imaging and lab services, women’s health programs, medical specialists, day surgery and public health services.
