Position:  Clinical Nurse Consultant (Mood & Anxiety Disorders)

Program: Mood and Anxiety Disorders Program

Duties:

Clinical Leadership and Consultation:

  • Provides clinical consultation to the nurses of the Mood/Crisis In-patient Unit
  • Develops implements and evaluates complex and detailed treatment protocols following a holistic assessment of clients with Mood/Anxiety Disorders.
  • Establishes positive working relationships with Primary Care Providers and key community agencies, developing alliances and professional approaches to assist in the identification and referral of patients with Mood/Anxiety disorders requiring specialized care.
  • Participates, as part of the Anxiety Disorders and Mood Disorders Programs management team in planning, recruitment and performance issues.
  • Participates in the performance evaluation of new Mood and Anxiety Disorders Programs’ nursing staff during the probationary period and on an ongoing basis.

Specialized Treatment and Rehabilitation:
  • Participates in the assessment, treatment planning, delivery and monitoring of patients and families referred to the Mood/Anxiety Disorders Program
  • Brings individual and group therapies to clients and their families on In-patient and outpatient services as an expert practitioner working collaboratively with a specialized team.
  • Plans and develops educational programs for clients, families, health professionals and community partners and agencies.
  • The flow of patients through the continuum of care from intake to discharge.

Education and Research:
  • Identifies and analyses staff educational needs in regard to their knowledge of anxiety disorders and clinical intervention skills in order to tailor both formal and informal learning opportunities and delivers these in collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Educator
  • Provides comprehensive nursing consultation to patients, family members, professional caregivers both within and outside the hospital
  • Utilizes, evaluates and conducts research to advance both Nursing and Program Knowledge and practice

Miscellaneous
  • Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of the Royal
  • Ensure a work environment that is conducive to the Royal's Respectful Workplace policy

Position Requirements
  • Master of Science in Nursing is mandatory.
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • CPMHN (c) is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 5 years previous experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing.
  • 3-5 years of Management experience, preferably in nursing.
  • CPR certification/ recertification, WHMIS and fire demonstration training within the past 12 months.
  • Willingness to pursue Cognitive Behavioural Training through the Academy of Cognitive Therapists.
  • Previous experience/knowledge of the CAPA model of care would be an asset.
  • Demonstrates specialized psychiatric/mental health nursing knowledge and skill when providing care to clients with an Anxiety Disorder.
  • Ability to provide expert guidance and coaching of patients, families, and other care providers to develop their knowledge and skill.
  • Ability to develop, implement and evaluate complex treatment plans and protocols based on the holistic assessment of clients with an Axis 1 Anxiety Disorder and their families.
  • Demonstrates an ability to provide client-centred case consultation
  • Possesses advanced research skills.
  • Demonstrates an ability to work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to reliable vehicle.
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, comprehension, reading and writing. Bilingual (French/English) level A- is considered an asset.

Terms of Employment:  Temporary Full Time,Days/Evenings,until March 2019
