Service Description:
|
Outpatient clinic where patients with cancer can see a cancer medical specialist. There are special situations where someone may be referred to the Cancer Centre who does not have cancer. The oncologist may suggest chemotherapy or radiation therapy. If chemotherapy or radiation therapy is needed, it is usually given at the Cancer Centre.
Accommodation Lodge: The Maurice Grimes Lodge has rooms for patients who live more than 40 km from the Cancer Centre.
Ninon Bourque Patient Resource Library: A lending library with over 1,000 books videos, cassettes on cancer and related topics * Internet access * open to patients, their families and the general public * 613-737-7700 ext 6980.
Cancer Rehabilitation / Fitness Program: Exercise rehabilitation * physiotherapy * cancer rehabilitation research make up this program which is designed to assist patients to improve quality of life.
Dieticians: Dieticians are available at the centre for one-on-one consultations (MD's referral required) for patients of high nutritional risk only * restore and/or maximize nutritional status, body weight and composition, and functional status prior to, during, and after cancer treatment * minimize or alleviate food related discomforts associated with cancer and/or its treatment (i.e. nausea * vomiting * diarrhea * constipation * anorexia * mucositis * esophagitis * dysphagia * dysgeusia), enabling patients to undergo their full treatments and improve outcomes * improve strength, well-being, and overall quality of life.
Social work services: Help people adjust to living with cancer and its treatment * individual, couple or family counselling * linking to various community services * sorting out financial difficulties * accessing support groups.
